Hanuman VS Ravan

                              Hanuman VS Ravan

Ravan hated Hanuman’s पूँछ . This line is a pun. He hated his tail (which had burnt his kingdom) and his name which was spreading among people. So one day he thought of pulling out Hanumanji’s tail.

Hanuman was sitting on a large rock. Ravan quietly came from behind, held his tail and applied all the force of his ten arms.

Hanumanji turned and saw Ravan. When he saw Ravan he started flying. Ravan came to pull out the tail but now was praying to Lord Shiva that this tail does not come off. After flying for a while Hanumanji let him go.

After his incident Ravan’s hatred increased and he sent 4 different armies to defeat Hanuman. They were warriors with elephant, horses, chariots and infantry. They came to kill Hanuman and he wiped them in no time. Messengers went to Ravan and filled him regarding the fight. Ravan angrily said that they should have attacked from the back. Messengers fearfully said that warriors who were fighting in front lasted for some time, but the warriors at the back were wiped in a jiffy. Ravan asked what killed them at the back. Messengers said पूँछ. Hands cannot increase in length but there is no length for the tail only. Ravan angrily shouted, don’t talk about पूँछ in front of me.

Ravan planned to send Amar Sena the next day. He had an army which was immortal. Messengers came to Lord Ram and told him about Amar Sena. Everyone except Hanuman got worried.

Jamvant told Hanuman that no one could kill them as they had a boon from Brahma. Hanuman said I have a boon from my Sita Mata.

अजर अमर गुननिधि सुत होहू।

Next day when Amar Sena confronted Hanuman, he increased his tail’s length and wrapped all of them in it. When he threw them with all his might, all of them went outside the Earth’s atmosphere. Messengers again went to Ravan. He asked where is the army. Messengers replied that they were not on earth anymore. They said he wrapped them in his पूँछ. Ravan again angrily shouted don’t talk about पूँछ in front of me.

This time Ravan challenged Hanuman to a 1v1 duel. He told him that they both would punch each other once and the person whose punch does more damage will be declared strongest. Hanumanji agreed on one condition that he would punch second so that in the future there should be no dispute that Ravan didn’t get an equal chance. Ravan filled with rage and gathered the force of his ten arms and punched him. He continued sitting. When Hanuman’s turn came to punch he saw Brahma ji with joint hands asking him not to punch. Brahma ji requested him not to spoil the leela of Narayan. Hanuman being a true devotee promised that he won’t kill Ravan. Hanuman punched Ravan with half his might and Ravan became unconscious. After hours he went back to Lanka and never confronted Hanuman again.

Learning:

The more successful you are, the more people will get jealous. Everyone will have problem with your पूँछ, like in the case of Hanumanji. People will try all sorts of possible things to push you down but you should never lose focus of your goal. The more they will try to shorten your पूँछ, the more it will increase .You just have to ignore them and continue doing your duty without thinking about the result.

Bhagvad Gita 2.47

You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.

That’s it for today’s blog. Do join in tomorrow if you want to learn about Hanuman’s humbleness.

Till then Jai Bajrangbali. Have a great day!
