Hanuman's Humbleness (Part-1)
Hanuman’s Humbleness (Part 1)
Sita has been kidnapped. Everyone along with Lord Ram is
standing at the coast. It is not decided yet, that who will go to find her.
Angad breaks the silence and says that he can go but doesn’t promise to return
alive. Jamvant says that now he has become too old. Everyone is pitching except
one who is silent, Hanumanji. Jamvant starts to provoke him. In his childhood,
Hanumanji got a curse from Matang rishi that he would lose all his powers and
will regain them in the need of the hour. Jamvant provokes him and Hanumanji
recalls all his powers. What Jamvant says to him? We will discuss that some
other day.
Hanumanji now asks Jamvant that, what should he do? A person who has the immense powers (asht-siddhi
according to hanuman chalisa) is asking an old man what to do. Jamvantji says
that you can go and easily return.
He starts his journey and the mountain he used to leap in the
sky went to hell. He used this much force to only jump. As I have said earlier,
God always tests before giving anything. All the Devtas accumulated and decided
to test Hanuman. They sent Sursa to test him. She interrupted his journey and
said that she will only satisfy when she eats him. Hanuman says that now he is
busy and has some work to complete for Ram and has no issue if she tries to eat
him later. But Sursa doesn’t move. She expands her mouth’s size to 1 yojan(1
yojan=8miles) . Hanumanji increases his body size to 2yojan. Sursa increases
her mouth to 4yojan . Hanuman becomes 8 yojan. This goes on for a while.
Hanuman then realises that there is no benefit in increasing his body size. He immediately
decreases his size and enters her mouth and returns back. He says now you have
eaten me and I have satisfied your condition. All the devtas are truly
impressed. The thing to focus here is that, “When Hanuman used his strength he increased his size and when he used
his intelligence he became small.” An intelligent person is and will always
be small.
He further continued his journey. A rakshasi named Sinhika
sent by Ravan was eagerly waiting for him. She had the power to capture shadows
of people. She captured Hanuman’s shadow but he killed her with no ease.
He further went on and met Lankini i.e. the gatekeeper of
Lanka. She refused to open the gates of the city for him. Hanumanji punched her
and she became unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she immediately
opened the gates of the city. Hanumanji got surprised and asked her that why
did she change her mind. Lankini joined hands and apologised.
Lankini said : जब रावनहि ब्रह्म बर दीन्हा। चलत बिरंच कहा मोहि चीन्हा ll
बिकल होसि तैं कपि कें मारे। तब जानेसु निसिचर संघारे॥
When the creator of the universe i.e. Brahma granted Ravan
his desired boon he gave me a signal to watch out for. Whenever I get unconscious
by a monkey’s blow, it means that Ravan’s end is near.
Hanuman enters the city thinking of Lord Ram’s feet.
I will end the story here for today’s blog. Will continue in
tomorrow’s blog. Till then Jai Bajrang Bali. Have a great day!
